Chocolate created for the day when we slow down and are able to reflect on what is really important.

“Sabadì is a brand that mainly focuses, since its birth, to eatables that have a magic inside.

The first product that came out of this brand is a “cioccolato di Modica”, a typical sicilian way of making chocolate, in this case made by extraordinary cocoa selected in Ecuador, in six combinations with strong personality.

The raw materials used come from fair trade producers and Slow Food presidia with respect for small indigenous communities, the environment and biodiversity.

We started by studying and designing the logo and entire brand identity, that had to match owner’s mood about business and life in general.

Sabadì (sounds like Saturday in Italian) is ‘… perhaps the day that does not exist… the day when we slow down, we reflect on what is really important…’ We then developed its first chocolate collection designing 6 characters, 6 packages and a crowner.”

mtion&phtgrphy | extracts of local distance

Countless fragments of existing architectural photography are merged into multilayered shapes. The resulting collages introduce a third abstract point of view next to the original ones of architect and photographer.

Digital scans of analogue architectural photography form tiny pieces of a large resulting puzzle. The original pictures are being analysed and categorised according to their vanishing-points and shapes. Based on this analysis, slices are being extracted from the source image. These slices retain the information of their position corresponding to their original vanishing-point and thus form a large pool of pieces, ready to be applied to new perspectives and shapes.

Using the extracted image segments, it is now possible to form collages of originally different pictures with a new common perspective. In order to compose a collage, a perspective-grid is defined and a lining of matching image segments is being applied. The segments are not altered to match the frame but fitting ones are chosen from the sheer mass of possible pieces. By defining additional keywords which describe the content of the original photographs, the selection of segments used for the final composition can be influenced. Thus a contextual layer is added through the semantic linking with the source material.

The recompositions mix and match the views and perspectives of both the architect and the photographer with a third, newly chosen frame. The resulting fine-art prints are entirely unique each time.

Dancing Squares by Nendo

Japanese designers Nendo present new work at Art Stage gallery in Singapore this month.

Called Dancing Squares, the show will include a bookshelf, lamp, stool and table, each made up of distorted or tumbling squares.

One part of the bookshelf is frozen in its cascade of tumbling planes, creating variety in the way books can be stacked.

The stool’s twist endows it with visual play.

stdio | when typography is style - akatre

Akatre was founded by Valentin Abad, Julien Dhivert and Sebastien Riveron.

The three of them met as students during their art studies in 2002.  After working together as a team for school projects and numerous assignments they quickly understood that they had to work together.  The idea of Akatre was already working up in their heads. Since their graduation, they experienced working in studios and companies, such as Philippe Apeloig, Integral Ruedi Baur, Pyramyd Editions, Michel Bouvet and Aer ‘studio.

About a year later of freelance work and internships, they had the “entrepreneurship bug” and didn’t want to work for a name, in the style or the way of thinking of somebody else.
 Hence they created “Akatre Atelier”.

Meanwhile they got residency in “Mains d’Œuvres” as resident graphic designers and responsible for its visual identity.

Akatre Atelier keeps trying to find new applications and doesn’t want to stay immobile. If you take a look into their projects you will notice a very experimental style, trying to surpass the boundaries for every project, hoping that they will be able to keep it this way for many years to come. While taking every project to another level.

“good design for us is a design which answers to the problematic of a brief with an extra conceptual vision”.

How Akatre imagines the future?  Full of creative work and projects! They would like to have free hands for an entire magazine, artistic direction, layout, photos, books, music video clips, art direction for fashion pictures, scenography of an exhibition and much more.

“Inspiration is everywhere; outside, in the subway, dance shows, architecture, photography, artistic movements, exhibitions, cinema, and life…”

awrd | knuthenlund - envision:design

“Knuthenlund Estate in Lolland has operated an organic farm since 2007, striving to offer high quality organic foods and at the same time taking care of the unique nature, that is characteristic for the Danish island of Lolland. In the Easter of 2009, Knuthenlund opened a whole new dairy farm in one of the former barns on the estate. The dairy farm is based on milk from the estate’s own organic milking sheep and goats. The fresh milk is handled very carefully to preserve its taste and structure.

Knuthenlund

Knuthenlund puts pride in affecting the environment as little as possible. This approach is also important in the packaging design process. This is why Knuthenlund Sheep’s Brie is sold in boxes made of sustainable poplar wood. And the brie is wrapped in paper made by potato starch.  Knuthenlund’s Sheep’s and Goat’s Milk is sold in reusable glass bottles.

In the printing process, it has been important to limit the use of printing colour. Knuthenlund also offers gift boxes made by unprocessed wood. The inspiration came from the old fashioned hay boxes. The box are isolated with the estate’s own hay and are therefore in line with Knuthenlund’s ambition to run a farm that both shows consideration for product quality and the environment.”
